My video work is a lot like my paintings: messy, overlapping, cobbled together from a lot of random bits. But it's getting less so. With Do Not Cross Tracks and unbuilding, I'm trying to introduce something of a narrative into the work, as well as location sound, which I largely try to ignore. Enjoy.

unbuilding
(11:00, 2006)

The Museum Plaza building in seattle is torn down in waltz time. It's since been replaced by the WaMu Center, a vastly superior building, so the tone of the film is celebratory and gives a certain elegance to a rather barbaric destructive act.

Do Not Cross Tracks
(14:00,2003)

Like Video Noise, this film is shot looking out a train window, in this case on the journey from New York Penn to Philadelphia 30th Street Station. It expands on the idea of the mind wandering, in this case with an almost ridiculously complicated soundtrack and heavily manipulated visuals.

Kitsch Parade
(10:13,2002)

A trip to the Monterey Bay Aquarium. Shiny fish! Romping penguins! Mesmerizing jellyfish! Fairly shallow (pun intended), bright, cheery fun.

Urban Safari
(5:49,2002)

An afternoon at the San Diego Zoo yields bored koalas, determined but stupid polar bears and pensive primates. Processed to look like 8mm Kodachrome film.

5by5
(5 x 5:00, 2002)

Five video tracks of Colorado mountain streams and highways and five audio tracks make for 26 different five-minute viewer-configurable films that can only be viewed on a DVD. The subtitles are a selection from Ad Reinhardt's Art as Art. Click to enlarge images.

Video Noise
(7:40,2001)

A train commute gives time to think and the boring trip from Grand Central to White Plains is no exception. Who'd imagine my mind could go from Martha Stewart to John Cage in a half hour's trip?

The sunset over Elliott Bay ...in one minute. A time-lapse piece from an apartment window.
